Tuesday roadkill/not-roadkill report
Sep. 5th, 2006 11:28 amOne muskrat pancake out in the bog. The remains lay centered in the wheel path and were thus rather nondescript, but that tail is diagnostic.
Not-roadkill: spotted a new heron out at the cemetery pond. I'm pretty sure this wasn't the same bird I'd seen before, looked smaller, but I am still pleased to have that ecological vacuum filled so quickly. Wouldn't want the frogs to multiply unchecked and become a menace to society.
Beautiful early-fall day again, blue sky, temperature in the low 70s, very little wind. A few more leaves turning, but we have a long ways to go before it qualifies as "color" or attracts Leaf Peepers. Which is not a bad state of affairs -- too many people on the road as it is. And some of them don't seem to understand why bicycles don't belong on gravel shoulders rather than the pavement. Guy was killed a couple of weeks back, down on Mount Desert Island -- bike got into the gravel, he lost control, fell onto the road. Under a truck...
