One orange-and-white kittycat in the middle of the road, about three miles into my ride. One very flat dog in similar position on the other side of town, coming back. Folks, if you let your cats and dogs wander, your kiddies may find out what the insides look like. And smell like, after a day or so in the August sun.

Another marvelous day. Got out on the bike early, temperatures in the 60s F and little wind, so I headed upriver and then into the hinterlands. Having learned at least a _little_ prudence with advancing age, I adjusted my normal route to stay on this side of the river. Thus, avoiding that damned temporary bridge and a repeat of the roadside tire change experience. Nothing new or startling to report in flora or fauna, but the purple loose-strife becomes more rampant by the day. I have seen the future, and it is purple.

One turkey vulture soaring over the road about 20 miles in, presumably also scanning for roadkill.

And two more local rides should bring my bike total over 1000 miles for the year. Not too shabby for a grumpy old fart with bad knees.
