Tuesday roadkill report
Jul. 11th, 2006 10:59 amOne squashed muskrat on the shoulder of the road out near the bog. I've seen at least two others this year within a hundred yards of that location. Are we going for a genocidal sweep?
Putrid out there this morning, hazy hot humid, but I decided to go for a ride before the conditions turned first abominable and then loud. Thunderstorms forecast for the afternoon. We lost our power for about two hours yesterday in similar circumstances. The UPS units worked fine.
Received a note from Nice Agent Lady this morning, she's about 1/3 through SIGNATURES and says good things. She does raise a question, though, about some nasty words I've had my characters use. One of the central characters (white) was raised in Mississippi in the 1950s and 1960s and occasionally slips back into her vernacular, saying that forbidden N word under stress. Now, I had a disabled Vietnam Vet in GHOST POINT refer to "gooks", totally in character and Nice Agent Lady agreed that it was, but she asked me to sanitize that, too. I changed it to Viets*, but that nasty racist term _is_ the one he would have used.
I dunno. That's the problem when characters talk back to you.
