Sunday roadkill report
Jun. 25th, 2006 02:42 pmOne squashed raccoon, numerous chipmunks and turtles sacrificed to the Great God Transport.
That weather front moved further south than expected, parking just offshore and leaving us dry today. Therefore, a ride occurred. Also great numbers of people mowing lawns, as "they" predict that the front will hoist itself up and head back inland this evening. Maybe. I mowed yesterday, even though the grass was still wet, as I thought that might be the closest thing to a chance we'd get.
Biked downriver and then inland, the first time I've done one of my full-length Sunday rides this year. Weather and coddling the knee have kept me off my usual schedule. More farmers mowing hay, more field daisies and flowering vetch and lupines. Spotted a brown thrasher, an unusual bird in this area.
Also on the birding front, we've had a sharp-shin hawk perching at the top of a maple tree a couple of houses over. Showed up a couple of days ago, there again this morning. May have some connection with the scarcity and nervous demeanor of the feeder birds...
Just about finished proofreading SIGNATURES. Will print and send to Nice Agent Lady tomorrow. May the publishing gods smile upon it and give it ink.
