Sunday roadkill report
Apr. 30th, 2006 02:43 pmOne dead critter up by the paper mill, either a muskrat or a woodchuck -- off in the grass, and the fur color can be similar. Also, the paper mill would qualify as roadkill -- it's closed and hunting for a buyer, putting about 1/3 of the city's tax base on the block, not to mention a few hundred jobs. Seemed strange not to gasp at the sulfur fumes as I pedaled by, though.
Sunny, temperatures in the 60s F, may have even reached 70* (but we'll have to wait for official readings on that.) Rode upriver to the next bridge and then down the other side. Windy again, averaged 12mph upwind and 15 mph down...
Printed off the draft of XXV on SIGNATURES this morning, bringing me to about 85,000 words with maybe two chapters left to go. Unless a plot weasel pops up and bites me on the ass. Tomorrow, Fat Wizard hikes up the pedestrian gangplank of a ferry, boat that looks a lot like the Cat I took to Nova Scotia last June. Didn't know that was research at the time, or I would have charged it off against taxes. But it looked like a good place for a showdown. Hey, everything goes into the stew.
26.28 miles, 1:58:05
*Later -- High today 72F, low last night 28, relative humidity under 20%, breezy -- can you say "Fire Weather" boys and girls? Rain forecast for Tuesday maybe through Friday, so we may not char after all.
