Could just about see to the end of the block this morning, luminous ground fog under sunrise and blue sky. It's all burned off now, and the world has become mundane again. Waking at 5 AM sometimes offers benefits.

That's right, boys and girls, the astonishing dearth of squashed critters continues on the highways and byways of the Great North Woods. Not even a fresh squirrel or pigeon corpse for the tally.

Sunshine, light and variable winds, and temperature around 60s made a bike ride a statutory mandate. Shorts and tee shirt weather for April in Maine -- yes, I can hear the shivers all the way from Florida and Texas. For us, 60 F counts as warm. More wood frogs quacking in the bog, no sign of skunk cabbage yet, couldn't see any actual ice even well in under the spruce and cedar shadows.

Added words to SIGNATURES this morning, one of Fat Wizard's plots seems to be working. That doesn't make him happy, since _that_ one includes a fair level of moral ambiguity. Also, for those of you familiar with Zelazny's ISLE OF THE DEAD, this particular plot involves a duel similar to the ritual of _glitten_ root...
