One messy-dead skunk, multiple flat garter snakes.

(Also half of my ride deceased. Got back to the bend of the river, didn't like the look of the clouds and the way the wind gusted, so I turned left rather than right and headed home. Ran through a minor sprinkle on the far side of the last bridge, but now the sun's out....)

Speaking of roadkill, I fervently HOPE that any of you readers in the New Orleans area are getting the hell out of town before sundown. Winds gusting over 200 mph in the latest Katrina report. The central barometric pressure predicts a serious storm surge.

Added note -- my aunt was in New Orleans for Camille, 'way back when. She worked for the Louisiana Public Health Service then, and I had occasion to read a carbon of her official typewritten report when we were cleaning out my mother's house. You do NOT want to be in town for the reruns....

***(Later) OOPS. Can't have been Camille -- some earlier major hurricane. 1940s or 1950s, it would have been.

Sitting at home this afternoon rather than visiting the venues of the music festival, but the PBS station just got through a set of Piedmont Blues, with Swedish fiddles up next and some Cajun scheduled later.
