That time of the year again -- snow melts during the day, flows out onto sidewalks and roads, freezes into a perfect sheet of ice overnight. Beware the Ides of March! (And preceding and subsequent days, of course.)

Also frost-heave and water-main break season, with the constant freeze-thaw cycle. Had a 12" line cut loose downtown the other evening, made for an exciting St. Patrick's Day in the adjacent pubs. One way to get the streets rinsed, I guess, but a million gallons seems a touch drastic.

Think I'll take the bicycle over to the nice folks at Pat's this morning, get the rear rim replaced and general adjustments. The rim is aluminum alloy and is showing metal fatigue cracks around the spoke eyelets -- don't _really_ want that deciding to come unglued twenty miles outside of town.

Two male cardinals dueling in the same tree this morning. Noisy.
