I didn't _think_ that would work
Nov. 8th, 2004 04:03 pmHad a meeting this afternoon with the code-enforcement officer of the town across the river. As I've mentioned before, there's this old house we're converting into transition apartments for chronic homeless. And there's this mother-in-law apartment out back, detached bungalow style, and the social service agency was _hoping_ they could get two bedrooms into the second floor....
Nope. Maximum headroom is 6'-9" for about 4' in the center, sloping ceilings down from that. It had been used for bedrooms in a past life. Quoth the CEO, shaking his head, "I really can't call that a habitable space under the building code." Quoth I, "Suspected as much."
Our ancestors were willing to live in such spaces. We aren't. One reason why housing costs keep going up.
Anyway, got my 500 words in this morning and afternoon, working around working, as it were. The Shrew is about to meet some strange people, living in an even-stranger house.
