Yabbut....
Sep. 25th, 2004 11:35 amItem in the newspaper this morning, about an Italian mayor who is embroiled in a battle over a Muslim woman who wants to wear a burkha in town. There's an old law on the books against wearing a mask or disguise in public. People are accusing him of being anti-Islamic and all bigoted.
When I grew up in Georgia, there was a mask law on the books there, too. _That_ one was aimed against the KKK. No way of knowing who, or what, was under that plain white business sheet. Or burkha. There is apparently evidence that the bombers who took down those two Russian passenger planes smuggled explosives on board under Islamic dress.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
