Odiferous Ride
Aug. 29th, 2004 12:19 pmSubtitle: Bad Night in Skunk City
Took a shorter ride this morning, out of deference to massive humidity and the threat of thundershowers. In that distance, saw or smelled evidence of five skunks. Three confirmed kills, so the others may have just been "sending a message." Or might have crawled off into the puckerbrush to die.
Live critters included a great blue heron patrolling the stream next to our Humane Society shelter -- are herons Humane hunters? I've seen a snowy egret near there lately, confirmed by rabid birders -- egrets aren't supposed to venture this far north. Global warming?
