Out for the Sunday bike ride (yes, another bicycle post), and was peddling through beautiful downtown Bradley when I came across a drive shaft lying on the shoulder. Looked like it came from a pickup truck. Bet that hurt.

Later, bombing down Copland Hill at about 40 mph, I encountered a deer in the middle of the road. And a car coming the other way. Luckily, all three of us were sensible. I slowed down, the car slowed down, and the deer looked both ways before sauntering back into the puckerbrush.

Sunny, just enough wind to keep the bugs under control, and saw hummingbirds at the nature center when I stopped off for a break and chat with my wife. And a squadron of about a dozen dragonflies, doing their bit to keep the bugs down. No chipmunks, though.

Forgot to mention the pair of red-tail hawks circling and playing with thermals, or the out-of-luck goldfinch at the feeder. That individual was still wearing winter plumage, drab, when everyone else was wearing their bright breeding feathers. So much for contributing to the gene pool.

And 'tis the season for smashed turtles on the road. If you see a lump crossing the asphalt, please avoid it.
