The expletive-deleted preparations for the funeral are not live coverage "news."  And hauling a coffin around for several hours does not need mass-media coverage on four networks.

I don't care whether you liked the man or loathed him.  I found him at best mediocre and at worst actively dangerous, but those adjectives apply to every president since at least Truman.

The fact is, the man died years ago.

Knew he was ill, probably fatally. Been a long, long time since I saw him live -- Ann Arbor or Detroit or Cleveland, sometime in the sixties, I think, that era has a smoky haze around it. And I think he was drunk. But good drunk, loose at the keyboard, a hell of a show. His music will live on.

May the wind be at your back....

Fat chance, if you're a Irish bicyclist. I did my evening 15 mile route over to the airport and back, and had the wind in my face both ways. Grrr. And this is NOT an illusion -- flags were pointing east when I was headed west, then the same flags were pointing west when I was returning. Like Black Bet said, the universe is out to get me.

And as for that bit of the road rising up to meet you -- at my age, the damned pavement is uphill both ways.
