One fairly neat porcupine corpse on the highway shoulder. Several skunks smelled, but no verified kills.

The temperature reached a torrid 60 F at noon today, so I pumped up the bike tires and headed upriver to the next bridge and down the other side. Beautiful late autumn day -- the recent storms have stripped most of the leaves, but left enough of them to remind you what season you were looking at. And speaking of storms, the river looked to be running 5'-6' above normal level, almost up to spring runoff conditions. I'd be expecting to see the level down to ledge at this time of year.

Don't know if I'll be granted the grace of another ride this year -- November would be stretching things. But today brought my total mileage over 1400 for the year and a little under 100 hours, which is respectable. If I hadn't lost a couple of weeks of rides to various distractions (yes, _you_, Barnstead, among others) I could have gotten in maybe 200 miles more.
