We're under a flood watch/flood warning and high wind warning for the area. Not a personal problem for us, but it's icky* out there. No bike ride today. No bike ride for the immediate future, either, possibly until next spring. And I wanted to take the mountain bike down to Acadia....

And I think our side-yard maple never _will_ turn yellow this year. The leaves just get blotchy and then fall off.

We've got some color in the leaves in the neighborhood -- those managing to hold on --

and in my trips hither and yon today I came to one place where the water was lapping up within a couple feet of the road. Note that the water doing the lapping occupied what's usually a riverside cornfield, with the river a hundred meters away and three meters below the field.

So today at the bird feeder.. a pair of hairy woodpeckers... unless they were downy woodpeckers. The bugs done drownded, I bet.

Downy or hairy, both species will take sunflower seed from the feeders. They look weird doing it.
