(Wry amusement, but amusement none the less.)

Item in the paper over the weekend, FEMA had an appropriation for designing an evacuation plan for New Orleans. Eight years ago. Money appears to have been spent on a study of the Lake Pontchartrain (sp?) bridge, instead.

And the ship of fools sails on....

Meanwhile, in this morning's paper, the _current_ head of the FEMA effort seems to question the wisdom of inviting a few hundred thousand people back into a city with no safe drinking water. Got to give that guy a lesson in politics. He spent too much time in uniform.

Better yet, letting a few hundred thousand back in with 2 hurricanes on their way. 1, at least, is going to pay them a close-call, if not a nice direct hit. It's too early to say where it's going, but it's low so it's almost definately headed into the gulf.

Why does he need a lesson in politics?

(This morning, Nathelmi has a density rivalling platinum.)

Obvious to the cynic -- the faster we get people back into the city and living a "normal" life (for sufficiently vague values of "normal"), the less severe the assorted fuck-ups on all levels must have been.
