Regarding Michael Brown

Appointing incompetent political cronies to high government position is an ancient and common practice of this land. It long predates both Democans and Republicrats.

Most of the time, it doesn't matter.

When you start spouting the "Democans and Republicrats" bullshit, you're skirting perilously close to Officially Stupid territory. Anyone who can't see that there are significant differences between the two groups is either not looking or not giving a shit.

Yep, the Federalists and the Whigs did it too, though the Whigs might have been the least guilty. Partially because they only ever got one President.
