Today being Labor Day (US national holiday, for you furriners), Mainers wave goodbye to the tourists headed south* and then check our wood supply for the blizzards just around the corner. Overnight temperatures in the 40s F, distinct chill in the air when I went for my morning newspaper walk. Discussing air-conditioner removal with Wife yesterday evening, may make that big seasonal change in the next week or so.

*Although, with the aging demographics of the Baby Boomer generation, more and more people have disconnected their vacation schedule from the school year and rusticate here in September and October. Autumn in New England has a deserved reputation as one of the finest times and places you can find anywhere.

One of my best childhood memories is of walking outside on a chilly fall morning, grabbing an apple from the tree, polishing the DDT off on my shirt, and taking that first cold, juicy, crisp bite.

I miss freshly squeezed unpasteurized, unfiltered, unanything apple cider.

OMG, it's cold where you are. Summer is still in full swing today. We haven't broken out of the 70s at night and the humidity always makes it feel much hotter.

I'd love to come and visit during late September or early October sometime. Sadly, given the con schedule, it will probably never be possible.

Highs still in the upper 90s here.

Amen, Brother. I wish I had a digital camera so I could post pictures of a nearby vista as it progresses through the color changes - just so less fortunately domiciled folks could see what autumn is supposed to look like.
