...and now kinda wish you'd never heard about.

Received in this morning's mail a thrilling offer for a free subscription to ONSITE WATER TREATMENT magazine. (This being the architectural office mailbox, which shares space with the writer mailbox and the junk catalog mailbox and all the others.) Representative article: "Septic Tank Types: A Survey" by Charles D. Bader.

So all you aspiring writers out there, have at it! This is the July/August issue, Vol. 1, No. 1, so they seem to be proposing 6 issues a year and Will Need Material. And if you sell chlorination systems or septic tanks or composting toilets for a living, I'm sure they'd like a chunk of your advertising budget.

Hey, at least they provided Wife and Self fifteen minutes of chuckles on a Monday morning, which shows points ahead right there.

hey Jim!

I was talking to my friend Ginjer Buchanan, SF editor at Ace Books, this weekend (yes, Ginjer is a friend - or at least a dear acquaintance and fellow Highlander fan). She thinks you're "a wonderful author".

I've written for computer/technical papers and I also used to ghostwrite for the editor of Material Handling Wholesaler (a publication which has changed hands since then)and the pay was good. Detail and fact checking were *really* important, you betcha. Those guys new a '37 Hyster with solid tires when they saw one...

Tell her that a manuscript is sitting on my agent's doorstep even as we speak. Well, even as we _type_.

And thanks for the "egoboo." Writers need that kind of thing on a regular basis.

(Ginjer isn't _my_ editor, as such. That would be Anne Sowards.)

I've always thought that being _down_ that proverbial creek would be worse than "up." If you're up the creek without a paddle, you can float back with the current....
