I wondered whether these vultures were metaphorical, so I spent a happy fifteen minutes looking up turkey vultures, and discovered that they do migrate, though here they're available for clean-up year round.

Yeah, up here they migrate and can be the first hope of spring. Plenty of winter- and road-kill thawing out of the snowbanks.
