Define "flexible"

New border regulations in effect today, folks coming in to this great U S of A from Canada have to have a passport, or photo ID plus birth certificate or other stuff.  Many and various are the frothings at the mouths...

The Customs and Immigration people say that they are going to be "flexible" on this, at least for a while.  I wish (with a level of devout wishing that would do credit to a devout wishing person) that they weren't using "flexible" as a synonym for "arbitrary."

And in other political news, I just hung up on a "personal" call from John McCain.  Can't we just take them all out to the pond and dunk them?  The ones that sink aren't witches...

Politicians are full of hot air - they'd float for sure! :D

Then they must be witches. We could do the whole Salem thing on them -- hanging, crushing, whatever.

Note: no actual Wiccans were harmed in any way in the making of this post...

And is it just me, or does it seem like a really bad idea making people carry around birth certificates in the day and age of identity theft?

Oh, they'd much rather that you paid a hundred bucks or so and got a passport. Which we may have to do, because Maine and Homeland Security have a pissing contest going, about "Real ID" and changing all our drivers' licenses (at state expense) to comply. If they don't back down, one side or the other, Maine licenses won't be accepted for _domestic_ airline travel...
