Paying attention

Sometimes those goldfinches at the thistle feeder turn out to be pine siskins.

Is your thistle feeder one of the upside-down variety?

I had been told that only goldfinches and one other kind of bird (Can't recall which.) could use such. Ours generally drips with goldfinches and I still see the very occasional non-goldfinch pecking right-side up at it, trying to solve the puzzle without success.

The other upside-down-bird is probably a nuthatch. They seem to be horizon-optional.

No, ours is right-side-up. They seem to cope.
