Grumpy voter
Well, we have a primary election today, no disputed contests in my local districts so no real reason to vote.
Except.
We have a budget initiative, proposed by the Maine Municipal Association in their infinite wisdom, in response to a citizen-initiative tax cap. The referendum would require the state government to fund education to a certain percentage of the school district budget, without promising local tax (property tax) cuts to an equal amount and without proposing any new sources of revenue.
Voodoo accounting, far as I can tell. Apparently the additional money comes from the Education Funding Fairy. Sorry, but I can't tell any real difference when the money comes from my State of Maine Wallet instead of my Local Property Tax Wallet.
And I'm just old and cynical enough to see a probability of increased taxes.

And have I mentioned that it's Too Hot?

Here, too. We're never sure whether we are "coastal" or "interior" or "northern" or "mountains" in the forecasts, but temp is in the eighties. I went for my bike ride and found the ambience excessive.
(There will be a lot of bicycle references in this journal. I put in over fifteen hundred miles last year, and if I'm not mentioning a ride, I'll be griping about weather that precludes riding. Or in the winter, lack of requisite snow for cross-country skiing....)
