Waiting for frost-free

Air temperature 36 F, wind southwest about 3 mph, fair skies. Light frost on the grass, with its admixture of weeds and moss. May patrol those weeds to uproot and slay thistles, which are the only 'lawn' intruders we ban. Probably won't get warm enough for a bike ride.

Met up with one of the tortoise-shell cats on my morning walk and applied remedial scritching, talked to the neighbor and confirmed that there are two. I'd thought so, slightly different markings. More Japanese magnolias blooming, including a pink one that is usually later. More forsythia. Even our slacker bush is looking like a full bloom this spring, first time since we've owned it. Or maybe our neighbor owns it -- boundary is a bit ill-defined on the uphill side.
