Abnormal weather

Air temperature 67 F, wind near calm, fog or mist at the airport. We have a heat advisory and air quality in the yellow. Another day hiding out in the burrow. And watching "Lee" . . .

Combat air patrol

Seems like a family of flycatchers has chosen the trees just across the street as an airbase. We've seen at least three flying sorties and returning to base with their snacks. Or missing -- can't tell from this distance. Also can't tell species. Some of the flycatcher species are identical or nearly so, only positive ID being their songs.

Birds of a feather . . .

We have a mixed mob of birds that wanders through and then vanishes. Chickadees, nuthatches, a tufted titmouse or two, some sparrows, and goldfinches all show up at the same time. The group even includes a couple of downy woodpeckers. I'm guessing that they gain extra lookouts by hanging out together.
