Testing conditions

Air temperature 62 F, wind southwest about 7 mph, fair skies. Will be trying to get a bike ride in this morning, including the route through the bog. We appear to have gotten about 3.5 inches of rain out of the last storm, so I will find out if that road remains viable . . .

Thursday roadkill report

Porcupine belly-up just before the golf course on my route, size looked like a yearling. Defense instincts of that species do not work against an F-150. Not-roadkill, a couple-dozen geese out by the cemetery pond, number approximate. The clans are gathering for their pilgrimage.

Not much new in the flower department. Some species of arrowhead showing white flowers in roadside pools in the bog, not close enough for bicycle botany. Thistles going to fluff, milkweed pods forming. More damned loosestrife.

Temperature 70s F, little wind, got out on the bike. Did not die.

Elder Son reports his first monarch butterfly of the year. We're getting late enough in summer that this might be the generation headed south.
