Winter pends again

Air temperature 21 F, wind north gusting to 30 mph, partly cloudy. Supposed to get snow, sleet, and freezing rain tonight into tomorrow. Record low for the date -25 F, so I probably shouldn't complain. But I will anyway.

Persistent birdies

Two hairy woodpeckers at work on that elm tree again. They've stripped bark from a lot of limbs, making a clear statement that the tree is doomed. It's one of the last large old elms in the city. Taking it down is going to be a Task.

Valid theory

I have verified that it is indeed cold out there. "Feels like" windchill 7 F for the morning walk.

Icy nighttime blues

Air temperature 27 F, wind north 19 mph gusting to 30, some ice on the ground and trees from freezing rain but nothing coming out of the sky right now. Don't want to get up at 3 AM to hook up and run the generator . . .
