We're not frost free yet

Air temperature 40 F, up from a low of 35. Wind northwest about 5 mph, scattered clouds. Need to mow lawn, harvest some asparagus, and maybe get in a bike ride this afternoon.

Flora and fauna

Worked with a fat bumblebee while mowing the side yard. We respected each other's space, and she seemed to be concentrating on the purple ground-ivy blossoms. Most of that is below blade height, so I wasn't destroying her livelihood.

Friday floral report

Black cherries joining the shadbush blooming in the woods, first Canada mayflower, wild crabapples. Also, the heavy version of horsetail/equisetum is sprouting. Tamaracks going green.

No fresh roadkill. That porcupine lies flatter and flatter on the road through the bog.

Temperature reached 60 F, wind gusting to 20 mph, got out on the bike. Did not die.
