Far from the madding crowd

Air temperature 44 F, wind NW about 5 mph, clear sky. Supposed to warm up enough for a bike ride, whether morning or afternoon yet to be decided.

Risking contagion

Venturing forth from our bunker this morning in another round of hunter/gatherer activity in the swarm of hostile microbes. And idiots. Never forget the idiots.

A sign of the times

Workers at our regular grocery are now wearing cloth masks printed with the store logo. A reminder that we have more than one crisis for the long haul.

Tuesday roadkill report

One tattered gray squirrel, one matriarch-class raccoon up near the auto graveyard. That junkyard may also be roadkill -- couple of for-sale signs out front, and I think that will be a hard property to move.

Rhododendrons starting to open, more rhodora out in the bog, fruit trees dropping petals. Lupines and buttercups flourishing.

Windy, still cool, but got my bike miles in. Did not die.

(no subject)

Other bike-ride entertainment:  crow chasing adult bald eagle across my route as I got back into town.  Raucous chorus of alarms from the redwings and grackles, who regard both crows and eagles as murderers . . .
