Headed out of town, heard geese calling along the river near the cemetery but couldn't see them, then had a ragged wedge overhead once I got up to the golf course. Then I turned off inland, along another stream, and found some number of geese exceeding fifty in the fields of the university farm. 'Tis the season . . .
Roadkill tallied a couple of chipmunks or red squirrels, ID uncertain, one definite muskrat and definite porcupine, and what I'm pretty sure was a beaver high and dry -- fur and size right, but I couldn't see the distinctive tail or teeth.
Nuisance wind, so when I reached my water stop by the dam and eagle overlook, no eagles, I headed straight home rather than crossing the river and riding down the other side. Did not die.
