Writer's Block: Wild Life
[Error: unknown template qotd] Talk about open-ended questions. Winter in Maine? Bug season? Equipped or naked? With or without bears?
(Note to the world: bears are vastly overrated as a hazard, even the big ones like grizzlies and Alaskan brown bears. You should spend more time worrying about bugs . . .)

Tuesday no-roadkill report
Can't even claim a fresh squashed squirrel to add to the feast for crows . . .
Not-roadkill, a woodchuck in a hayfield off the Chase Road. This is the first sighting, either the quick or the dead, on my bike routes this year. Which is a little strange, as the grass has greened up and Wife has reported them from the nature center, a couple of weeks now.
Sky cleared off, air warmed up, got out on the bike. Now I pay for it with itchy eyes, tree pollen attack.
15.27 miles, 1:10:02
(I'd like to claim improved conditioning and leg strength for the two-minute cut off last week's time, but lack of wind contributed more . . .)

Subtropical
Official temperature 87.1 F at the airport. No wonder we felt a bit warm on our afternoon walk . . .
(Old record high for the date was 80 F. "Normal" high 58 F.)

I forgot to mention
First white violets blooming in the side yard.
(I'll probably have to mow the lawn this weekend, with rain and then heat.)

New England weather
Official high for the day, 90 F. Old record for the date 80 F.
We're supposed to get frost tomorrow night . . .
(Windy right now, performing the necessary air change to achieve this.)
