38 F

Morning temperature.  Above freezing.  The sound of liquid water heard in the land.

Of course, this is probably the high for the day.  Supposed to get back near 0 F tonight.

There's a killer on the road

Or anyway, on the ski trail.  Spotted a dead porcupine by the side of the trail at about the 3 mile/1 mile mark -- hard to miss, as bits and shreds scattered right across my path.  The tracks had gotten messed up, but probable fisher attack -- they're the only predators that specialize in porcupine dinners.

I warned a skier going the other way, with unleashed golden retriever, of the attraction awaiting.  Some dogs ain't got no sense . . .

Bouncy bouncy bouncy

We appear to have reached 46 F before the temperature started into its dive.  If true, this may be a record high for the date.  Last month we registered 3 record lows, with an average temperature 7 degrees below normal.  The fifth coldest January on record, according to the weather twit.

Brief rain shower while I was out on the ski trails -- furthest point from the car, of course . . .
