Sunshine

We have sun, we have warmer temperatures. We also have a high wind warning, so maybe I won't try to sneak a bike ride past the weather gods. For those of you who do not pedal, wind on a bike is not a great amount of fun.

Put in another few hundred words on SIGNATURES this morning. I'm beginning to get a handle on the main character and the setting. Haven't invented all the rocks I'm going to throw at him yet, but I do know the big one at the end.

(Writer's shorthand. One famous author said that what he does, he tries to create a sympathetic character and then drops him down a deep hole and throws rocks at him while he tries to climb out.)

This story will, as requested, end up somewhat different than past published work. I'm using first-person narrative, starting in present tense and then going to past in an oral tale format, and I'm aiming at a cross-genre contemporary detective fantasy. Location will be intentionally obscure, with the narrator saying right up front that some of the story is deliberate lies. He has secrets to keep.

I just hope he doesn't keep them from me. I hate it when that happens.

The other side of writing -- BOOKLIST review of DRAGON'S EYE

Snipped from an email from my contact in the SMOTU ranks:

Booklist Nov. 1, Boxed and starred review. Plot summary, then "All of
Hetley's characters are truly memorable, and he does a seamless job of
blending several magical traditions. This one hooks you from page 1. Well
done! --Paula Luedtke" [Friend of yours? How much did you pay her? ;-) ]
Anyway, very nice.
