Raining

If it's Saturday, it must be raining. Looks like bike rides are out for the whole weekend.

Added my wordage to GHOST POINT this morning, but we've reached the point where I don't think I'm going to tell you what. Climaxes and resolutions, you know, and spoilers. Decisions will be made. Lives will end. Beginnings will begin anew. Empires will tremble.

What have you.

Booked my reservation on The Cat to Yarmouth for next month, en route to Halifax and Barnstead's SF class at Dal U. For some reason known but to God, he wants me to impersonate a writer in front of college students. We shall hope that the famous Nova Scotia fogbank lifts enough that I at least can admire some scenery, so the trip won't be a total bust.

Been playing around with a pedometer that Wife brought home, lost by some poor soul out at the nature center months ago and no queries filed. "Now, what does _this_ button do?" Figured out how to reset the calibration -- seems to have been set for a jogging pace, 2.9' stride as opposed to my 2.4' +/- walking stride. Have walked almost a Roman mile (thousand double paces) inside the house today. Prowling.

Well, that was an unpleasant surprise

Was reading newsgroups over on sff.net when we had a power glitch -- and the screen went black. Guess I need to replace the battery in that UPS....

(That's the other, mechanical rather than superstitiousal, reason why I do a lot of writing work on the laptop. It has its own battery.)

Rain and wind and I guess maybe some lightning out there somewhere. Unpleasant day. As of last check, 4723 steps on the purloined pedometer. I keep prowling the house, scratching at doors and meowing and hoping that one of them leads into _dry_. If such a strange concept exists.

Younger Son just sent us an email reminding us that today is Haiku Day -- 05/07/05. Maybe all that money we spent on Higher Education wasn't a total waste.
