Back to the 3-H world

Hazy, hot, humid. Temperatures only in the mid-80s F, but the dewpoints are inching back up into the upper 60s. According to the Weather Prophets, we shall have showers and thundershowers this afternoon/evening, and cooler, dryer weather over the weekend. Unless tropical storm Franklin decides to take a quick run up the east coast instead.

Got Brian and Dierdre back together this morning, nice cozy S&M relationship based on mutual distrust tempered with respect. (Refer to WINTER OAK if that doesn't make sense to you.) He's going to let her go, she wonders why, all that sort of tension that you develop over fifty years of cordial hate. Treachery, thy name is Pendragon . . .

To be frank, The Summy Country had it's fair share of S&M. Is there a reason for this common theme?

Well, I'm not into that scene personally, you understand, but as Tolkien points out regarding Rivendell, good times don't usually make good story. Writers have tortured their characters since before writing existed -- check out oral literature like the Iliad and Odyssey, or the story going down in the Book of Job. Or the Potter stories, for that matter. The Celtic legends underlying SUMMER COUNTRY and WINTER OAK get into some truly dark and nasty territory.
